ASML is charging more to keep its machines running. The Dutch lithography maker will raise prices by **10%** on every replacement part for its EUV and DUV systems supplied to South Korea, for deliveries from **January 2027**, Korean industry sources said in reports from **9 October 2026**. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix accepted after talks with ASML's Korean unit, which sent the proposal in early September. On the [semiconductor map](https://www.sotkn.com/stack/semiconductors/), this is the lithography step pricing its installed base: the scanners are already in the fabs, so the parts bill is not optional.

## What happened

Early September

**ASML proposes a flat 10% rise on all EUV and DUV replacement parts for Korea**

Covers routine consumables and major parts swapped after failure or wear: optics, light sources, motion systems

9 to 11 October

**Reports say Samsung and SK hynix have accepted, effective January 2027**

ASML is also said to be discussing higher prices for new equipment with major customers

The base it lands on

**ASML's service and upgrade line made €8.2 billion in 2025, 25% of sales**

ASML expects that line to grow by more than 30% in 2026

## Why cash cares

A chipmaker can delay ordering a new scanner. It cannot stop servicing the ones that print its wafers every day. That is why this price rise matters more than the size of the number suggests. Memory makers are adding capacity for AI as fast as they can, and every extra hour a scanner runs wears out more parts.

ASML calls this business Installed Base Management: service and field upgrades on tools already sold. It was **€8.193 billion** in 2025, out of **€32.667 billion** of total sales. In the first half of 2026 it was **€5.25 billion** of **€18.09 billion**, or about **29%**, our arithmetic. Add the more than 30% growth ASML expects this year and the line passes **€10.6 billion** in 2026, also our arithmetic. A 10% rise on Korean parts from January adds to that without ASML shipping one more machine.

It is not only ASML. Applied Materials said in August that it had raised prices on new and existing products, and Tokyo Electron said in July it was adjusting prices too. Toolmakers have the upper hand while memory makers and foundries expand at the same time.

**Figure: Installed-base clock.** ASML's service and upgrade sales by year, their share of total sales, and the dates between the Korea notice and the January 2027 price change.

## The second-order read

**Who gets paid.** ASML, on parts margin from tools already installed. Other toolmakers next: a price rise accepted by the two largest memory makers makes it easier for every supplier behind them to ask.

**Who pays.** Samsung and SK hynix, through higher running costs per scanner from January. With memory prices high, they judged the rise affordable. If memory prices soften, the cost stays.

**Who waits.** TSMC, ASML's largest customer, which has reportedly opposed higher equipment prices. Its answer sets whether this is a Korea deal or an industry price.

**Stuck step.** Lithography tool supply. ASML plans to add 30% to its 2026 low-NA EUV capacity of about 65 systems for 2027\. Until that capacity arrives, it sets the price.

## Two cautions

The 10% figure, the January date and the acceptance come from Korean industry sources, not from an ASML statement. ASML has not said how much of its parts revenue comes from Korea.

The rise covers replacement parts, not every service contract or upgrade, so it does not mean ASML's whole service line rises 10%.

## What would change the view

- ASML confirms or plays down the parts price rise in its third-quarter results.
- TSMC accepts higher equipment or parts prices, making this an industry price, not a Korea one.
- Memory prices fall before January, putting the extra running cost back on the chipmakers' margins.

## What to watch

- **ASML third-quarter results on 14 October**: service and upgrade sales against the roughly €2.9 billion it guided, and any comment on pricing.
- **New equipment prices**: whether a list price rise on new scanners follows the parts rise.
- **Samsung and SK hynix third-quarter results in late October**: whether higher tool and parts costs change their 2027 spending plans.
