Schneider Q3: €11.46B, data center demand up triple digits

Schneider Electric's data center orders are still growing faster than it can ship switchgear, UPS and prefab power rooms, so the electrical gear between grid and GPU hall tightens into 2027.

Schneider Electric's record €11.46 billion third quarter shows data center orders for switchgear, UPS, prefabricated power rooms and cooling still growing by more than 100% a year, faster than the company can turn them into sales, so the electrical gear between the grid and the GPU hall is getting tighter, not looser, going into 2027.

What happened?

  • The print: On 16 October 2026 Schneider Electric reported third-quarter revenue of €11,460 million, up 16.9% organic and 17.9% reported. The company called it a record for any quarter in its history. Reuters said the figure was above the €11.13 billion company-provided analyst consensus.
  • The data center line: Demand in the Data Center & Networks end-market rose triple-digit in the quarter. In the pure data center segment, demand was up triple-digit globally, led by North America, with China and East Asia accelerating to a similar rate. Data center sales grew "strong double-digit", driven by prefabricated solutions, electrical distribution and protection, and cooling.
  • By business: Energy Management, where the data center gear sits, grew 18.8% organic to €9,615 million. Systems, the direct-to-customer projects business that is 35% of revenue, grew 22% organic, with data centers driving it through prefabricated solutions, three-phase UPS and cooling. Products, 48% of revenue, grew 17% organic, with price rising each quarter.
  • The target, raised a second time: Schneider now expects 2026 adjusted EBITA growth of 18% to 21% organic, up from 14% to 19% set in July. Organic revenue growth is now 12% to 14% (July: 10% to 13%), and adjusted EBITA margin is seen up 100 to 120 basis points, which the company says implies about 19.7% to 19.9%. On the call, CFO Nathan Fast reminded analysts the revenue range began the year at 7% to 10%.

Why does it matter?

The direct signal. Schneider sells the electrical spine of a data hall: medium- and low-voltage switchgear, power distribution, UPS, prefabricated power modules and, since buying Motivair, liquid cooling. When its data center demand grows by more than 100% for a quarter, that is a count of halls that have moved from plan to purchase order for the gear that has to be installed before any GPU can be switched on.

The second-order signal: orders are outrunning shipments. Demand up triple-digit against sales up strong double-digit means the order book is growing faster than the factory can empty it. Fast said on the call that the data center segment has now posted triple-digit demand growth in three of the last four quarters, and that much of it is phased into 2027 and 2028. The release says the same in plainer words: increasing visibility into 2027 and 2028 and another record backlog at quarter-end. For a hall developer, that is a queue. For anyone modelling when a powered hall bills rent, it is one more clock that has to run out before the lease starts; we explain why rent waits for power in our data center leases explainer.

The cost signal. Fast said third-quarter product pricing was worth about the same in value as all of the first half, with the January increases now at full run rate and further actions ramping. He named memory, semiconductors and copper as the next wave of input inflation and said Schneider would use the same pricing approach in 2027 if those pressures persist. The electrical fit-out of an AI hall is getting dearer per megawatt as well as harder to get.

Our arithmetic on exposure.

  • Fast said Data Center & Networks was 30% of 2025 revenue, with direct data center exposure about four points lower. On 2025 revenue of €40,152 million, that is roughly €12.0 billion for Data Center & Networks and roughly €10.4 billion for data centers alone.
  • With triple-digit orders in three of four quarters, Fast said that share should rise when Schneider reports the full year. A gear supplier with about a quarter of sales in data centers is now a direct read on hall construction, not a side bet on it.

What does it change?

Near term (into early 2027)

  • A slower-looking fourth quarter is built into the range. Nine-month revenue was €32,686 million, up 15.0% organic. Our arithmetic, using Schneider's reported 2025 base: a full-year 12% to 14% organic outcome implies fourth-quarter organic growth of roughly 4% to 11%, against 16.9% in the third quarter. Fast put this down to the comparison: the fourth quarter of 2025 was among the strongest quarters in the company's history. Read the gap as base effect and caution, not as a demand call; the demand comments point the other way.
  • Asia joins the queue. China and East Asia revenue grew 26.1% organic and Energy Management there 32.4%. The release names Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia as growing very strongly on data center projects, and China's data center segment as the regional growth leader. When demand in China and East Asia runs at a similar rate to North America, both regions draw on the same factories for the same gear. Our Malaysia market door tracks the Johor end of that build.
  • Capacity is being added, not yet caught up. Fast said Schneider is expanding liquid cooling capacity from North America into India, Italy and China and adding prefabricated capacity with partners such as Foxconn, and that this "should allow us" to keep up with triple-digit demand. That is a plan, not a delivered result.

Longer term (2027–2028)

  • Prefab becomes the default delivery route. Bernstein's analyst noted this was the fourth quarter in a row Schneider named prefabricated solutions as the main data center driver, and the release says European colocation customers are now taking a fully integrated turnkey approach. Fast tied this to speed to compute and shortage of site labour. If halls are increasingly assembled from factory-built power rooms, the bind shifts from on-site electricians to factory slots.
  • Financing stress does not show up here yet. Asked about neocloud exposure after this week's selloff in CoreWeave's bonds, Fast said Schneider's data center book should be broadly representative of the market, with no outsized neocloud exposure, and CEO Olivier Blum said Schneider is selective about customers with strong financial capabilities. A gear supplier weighted to hyperscalers and large colocation landlords would feel a neocloud funding squeeze late, if at all.
  • Risks the company itself flags. The release warns that disruption in the Middle East may affect the fourth quarter, with potential pressure on global supply chains and higher inflation. Schneider expects price to offset raw material inflation and net tariffs in 2026; it gave no 2027 guide.

What should we watch next?

  • Vertiv third-quarter results, 28 October 2026, before the US market opens; call at 11:00 Eastern (23:00 Singapore). Vertiv announced the date on 14 October. It sells the same UPS, power and thermal gear into the same halls; its orders and backlog are the cleanest cross-check on whether Schneider's triple-digit demand is market-wide or share gain.
  • Schneider full-year 2026 results, 18 February 2027. The first update of the data center share of revenue after three triple-digit order quarters, and the first view of 2027.
  • What would weaken the catalyst: a Vertiv print with slowing orders or a falling book-to-bill; Schneider or a peer reporting data center order cancellations or deferrals; or a fourth quarter landing at the low end of the implied 4% to 11% range with demand commentary to match, rather than a base effect.

FAQ

Does "triple-digit demand" mean Schneider's data center sales doubled?
No. Demand here means orders. Schneider said data center demand rose triple-digit in the quarter while data center sales grew "strong double-digit". The gap between the two is what is building the backlog that gives the company visibility into 2027 and 2028.

How big is data centers for Schneider?
The CFO said Data Center & Networks was 30% of 2025 revenue and direct data center exposure about four points lower. By our arithmetic that is roughly €12 billion and €10 billion of 2025 sales. He said the share should rise when 2026 is reported.

Why does a guide of 12% to 14% look like a slowdown?
Nine-month organic growth was 15.0%. Holding the full year to 12% to 14% implies a fourth quarter of roughly 4% to 11% by our arithmetic. Management pointed to the comparison: the fourth quarter of 2025 was one of its strongest ever. The range was raised and narrowed, not cut.

Is Schneider exposed to neocloud financing stress?
Management said its data center book is broadly in line with the market and not overweight neoclouds, and that it picks customers with strong financial capability. It does not split orders by customer type, so that cannot be checked from the numbers.

Takeaway: Schneider's €11.46 billion quarter says the electrical gear that sits between the grid and the GPU is still being ordered faster than it ships; Vertiv's results on 28 October are the next dated test of whether that queue is market-wide.
