Second Order by TKN
The free Daily Wire is a five-minute brief: what changed, why money moves, and what to watch next.
Everyone watches Nvidia. We map the next links in the stack—power, cooling, packaging, and neoclouds.

The Wire names the move. Start here when you need the mechanism behind it.

Desks publish the notes. These two indexes show where money sticks in the stack, and what changed by country.
Layers
Start where the rent is rising. Full stack later.
Open The StackMarkets
Layers explain the stack. Markets show what changed locally — and what’s coming next.

Duke Energy's North Carolina settlement (filed 6 Oct): new data centers of 50 MW or more fund their own substation upfront and pay 75% of demand charges, used or not. Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft signed. The commission rules by mid-November.
GlobalFoundries will make silicon interposers for TSMC's CoWoS AI chip packages in New York under a $2B, five-year deal. Volume only ramps in 1H 2028. The stuck step is the Malta build.
Nebius switched its spare GPU hours from a fixed price to live spot pricing on 8 October. An H100 hour now floats between $0.79 and $4.49. Nebius gets paid more when clusters are full. The stuck step is the idle hour, and only the console shows it.
TeraWulf doubled contracted power at its Muskie campus in Kentucky to 1 GW and pulled the second 500 MW into 2029. The power is signed; the renter is not. The stuck step is the tenant.
Explained
The Wire flags the move. Explained traces the link between a bottleneck, the buyer, and the cash flow.
An AI data center is built for dense racks of AI chips, which need far more power, cooling and networking than a normal data center. Utilities, landlords and chip makers get paid at different steps. The stuck step is getting power to the hall.
AI tokens are the chunks of text, image or sound an AI model reads and writes. Clouds bill by the million. Google’s model APIs now handle about 22 billion a minute. The stuck step is capacity to serve them.
Wafer fab equipment is the set of machines that turn blank silicon into chips. Five toolmakers sell most of it. They are paid before a fab makes its first wafer. The EUV scanner is the tightest tool.
