MediaTek is paid on chips it already shipped: NT$168.058 billion of third-quarter sales, and NT$28.199 billion of profit. Parent shareholders are paid on NT$27.882 billion. The stuck step is the first accelerator, still mostly in stock.

GPU cluster acceptance is the customer's sign-off that a rack of GPUs passed the tests in the contract. The monthly fee starts then, and silence during the short test window can count as a yes.

Anthropic's amended IPO filing commits at least $121.3 billion to Google, $110.0 billion to Amazon and $44.9 billion to Microsoft, owed whether or not it uses the capacity. That is a firm floor under cloud backlogs, but the money only moves as capacity is handed over.

GDS Holdings builds and runs large data centers around Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen and in China's power-rich west, renting space and power to cloud and internet giants. It has 784,802 sqm committed, but almost a third is not yet in use.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed a ₩879 billion one-year supply deal for AI server capacitors, its eighth long-term parts contract this year, which shows the tiny parts around every AI chip are now booked a year ahead like memory and packaging.
Explained
Semiconductor yield is the share of chips on a wafer that work. On a standard model, the same defect rate that costs a phone chip 10% of its output costs a big AI chip more than half. Yield is capacity a fab does not have to build.

Taiwan grew 14.36% in the third quarter, and almost half of it came from building and buying machines. Then TSMC paid NT$38.8 billion for a finished display plant, clean rooms included, while a server maker’s plant deal fell apart. Machines are arriving faster than floors.

TSMC is paying NT$38.8 billion for AUO's Taichung display plant, clean rooms included. It paid the top appraisal, and about 67% more per square metre than in 2024. Finished floor space is the scarce thing; turning it into chip floors is the step still open.
