Bitdeer AI adds a 67 MW Malaysia data center with no customer yet

Bitdeer AI has signed a 10-year deal for a 67 MW Malaysian AI campus with no customer yet. Across its four Malaysian halls, customers have signed for about 25 of 163 MW. The stuck step is offtake: no customer, no prepayment, no GPUs.

WIRE · NEOCLOUDS · MALAYSIA · Data as at 12 Oct 2026

Bitdeer AI has signed for another data hall before it has a customer for it. On 8 October 2026 the GPU-cloud arm of Bitdeer Technologies said it had entered a 10-year data center services agreement for A901, a 67 MW AI campus in Malaysia, with first capacity due in the first quarter of 2027 and the full 67 MW in the second quarter. The release also says no customer has committed to any of it. On the neocloud model, Bitdeer has done the order backwards on purpose: it secures the powered hall first, sells the GPU time second, and buys the GPUs last.

What happened

1 September

A102 sold out: 9.5 MW, more than $800 million over five years

No revenue in 2026. Service and revenue start in the first quarter of 2027

14 September

A202 secured in Johor: 65.1 MW on a 10-year agreement, no customer signed

Power-on expected in the third quarter of 2027. Bitdeer expects A102-like economics per MW

29 September

A201 more than 70% committed: 21.7 MW, more than $1.7 billion over five years

Total backlog about $2.9 billion. More than 100 Nvidia GB300 NVL72 racks already bought

8 October

A901 secured: 67 MW for 10 years, no customer signed

Secured capacity now about 273.5 MW, 78% of a 350 MW target for early 2028

Why cash cares

A neocloud earns money only when a customer rents its GPUs. Bitdeer AI says it buys GPUs against signed contracts and wants customer prepayments to cover more than half of the equipment cost. So the cash order is fixed: hall first, customer second, chips third. The hall is the only part Bitdeer commits to before it knows who will pay.

That order is now lopsided in Malaysia. Across its four Malaysian halls Bitdeer has lined up about 163 MW. Customers have signed for about 25 MW of it: all of A102 and at least 70% of A201. The two big halls, A202 and A901, are 132 MW on 10-year agreements with no customer announced. Bitdeer has not said what it pays the A901 operator, or where exactly the campus is.

The upside is easy to size. A102 works out to about $17 million per MW per year. Our arithmetic, not a Bitdeer figure: filling A202 and A901 at that rate would bring in about $2.2 billion a year, or about $11 billion over five years. That is roughly the "more than $10 billion" pipeline Bitdeer quotes for all its sites. The pipeline is a management estimate of talks in progress, and the release says plainly that it is not backlog.

Site first, customer later: Bitdeer AI's four Malaysian halls by MW signed for and MW still unsold

Figure: Site first, customer later. Bitdeer AI's four Malaysian halls, the share customers have signed for, and when each is due. About 25 MW of 163 MW is sold.

The second-order read

Who gets paid. The hall operators first, with 10-year agreements on A202 and A901. Then the GPU and rack sellers, for halls that have customers: Bitdeer says it has bought more than 100 GB300 NVL72 racks for A201, the hall that is mostly sold, from an unaffiliated third-party supplier at market price.

Who waits. Bitdeer's shareholders. Bitdeer says the A102 contracts add no revenue in 2026, and A201 does not open until early 2027. A901 has no revenue date at all until a customer signs.

Who carries the risk. Bitdeer, which has committed to 132 MW of halls for a decade ahead of demand. If customers sign at A102 prices, the bet pays. If they sign for less, or late, Bitdeer is committed to space it cannot yet fill.

Stuck step. Offtake. Without a signed customer there is no prepayment, and without the prepayment Bitdeer does not buy the GPUs that fill the hall.

Two cautions

Contract value per MW changes with the service mix, the term and the site, and Bitdeer warns that A102's terms may not repeat. The $2.2 billion and $11 billion figures are what A102's rate would imply, not a forecast.

The pipeline figure was already "more than $10 billion" on 29 September, and the 8 October release gives the same floor after adding 67 MW. More megawatts went in, but the stated estimate of what customers might pay did not move.

What would change the view

  • An offtake announcement for A202 or A901 with a dollar value and a term.
  • A201 moving from 70% to fully sold before it opens in early 2027.
  • A slip in A201's January 2027 ready-for-service date, which would push back the first revenue.

What to watch

  • The next offtake release: which hall, how many MW, and the price per MW against A102's roughly $17 million a year.
  • Prepayment share: whether new contracts still cover more than half of the GPU spend.
  • The A901 operator: who owns the campus and what Bitdeer pays them.
