₩6.2tn Expected, Cheque Not Cut: Who Gets Paid While SK Square's Return Stays a Plan
SK Square's shareholders are named on a plan, not on a cheque. The company expects at least ₩6.2 trillion from SK hynix. The newsroom puts at least ₩4.3 trillion back out. The cheque waits on the 2026 books.
SK Square's own shareholders are the people this plan names, and they are not paid yet. The company expects about ₩6.2 trillion or more of dividend income from SK hynix. Its newsroom puts at least ₩4.3 trillion of that back out. The stuck step is the cheque. Scale, method and date wait until the 2026 books close.

The numbers that matter this month
The trigger is SK Square's 2 November disclosure, "SK Square Shareholder Return Plan," and the newsroom item the same day. The operating numbers are the 28 October print this plan cites. They are the pool, not a new quarter.

Source: the SK Square disclosure and newsroom, 2 November 2026; the SK hynix fair disclosure and results newsroom, 28 October; the return table for 2023–2025. The ₩100 trillion, ₩30 trillion and ₩6.2 trillion are forward-looking. The ₩14 trillion is a resolved dividend, printed as a round trillion.

Why does Korea matter now?
Because profit on Korea's memory has started to leave the operating company, and the holding company has now filed a rule for how much of its receipt it intends to pass on.
SK hynix is paid when a stack ships. The third quarter was that payment: revenue ₩104.6155 trillion, operating profit ₩83.3338 trillion, margin 80%. The 28 October pulse stayed on that company and on HBM4. This print is the next pipe. A dividend is profit after it has been booked. SK Square sits between SK hynix and a listed set of its own shareholders. A buyer of SK Square is not buying a fab. Through 2025 the company returned cash by buyback, and the cash-dividend column on its IR page is empty. The won now being discussed is in the trillions.
The physical clock has not moved. Yesterday's export pulse was the price of chips already made, and the tools and slots that limit the next line. This filing does not update exports or a fab. It says who is in line for cash already earned. The stack itself is HBM, explained.
What changed
Two documents, five days apart. SK hynix on 28 October named the pool. SK Square on 2 November named its rule for passing a slice of that pool on.
Hynix put 2026 returns at about ₩100 trillion: cash dividends of ₩30 trillion or more, and buybacks to cancel of ₩60 trillion or more, including ₩40 trillion from August that the newsroom says was completed the week before the meeting. Staff shares are excluded. A new ₩20 trillion buyback splits about ₩10 trillion to cancel and about ₩10 trillion for staff, outside the total. The ₩100 trillion is marked forward-looking.
The dividend that is no longer a plan is the third quarter: ₩14 trillion, a round trillion, at ₩20,000 a share. ₩10,000 reflects earnings. ₩10,000 is the Kioxia special. A second instalment waits on the annual dividend, after year-end results. No record date and no pay date are printed. We do not borrow one.
SK Square's PDF cites that filing. Expected dividend income is about ₩6.2 trillion or more, given a stake it does not print. Recurring pass-through rises from at least 30% to at least 60% through 2028. The Kioxia special is passed on at 100%. A portion of investment gains stays, with no won attached. Scale, method and timing follow the 2026 statements. The PDF says the figures can move with results, board votes, and SK Square's own cash.
The newsroom is a second document. Its English bullet says ₩4.3 trillion or more. One sentence in that same item drops "or more." The Korean item keeps the floor. We use the floor, and we do not put it in the PDF. The reclass of ₩5.89 trillion into retained earnings, early this year, makes a distribution legally possible. It is not cash from SK hynix.
Our math
These lines are our arithmetic. A closed identity is the company's. A ratio of two floors is ours.
The hynix return headline does not add up to its own parts, and we do not force it. Cash dividends of ₩30 trillion or more, plus buybacks to cancel of ₩60 trillion or more, are ₩90 trillion. The headline is about ₩100 trillion. The gap is ₩10 trillion. The new buyback's employee slice is also about ₩10 trillion, and the company says that slice is excluded from the return total. Adding it back would put into the headline a number the disclosure took out. We leave the ₩10 trillion gap unnamed.
₩14 trillion is 46.7% of the ₩30 trillion floor, so the undeclared remainder is ₩16 trillion. The first figure is rounded and the second is a minimum, so ₩16 trillion is a gap, not a forecast of the year-end cheque. The same ₩14 trillion is 16.8% of operating profit and 35.2% of net income. The per-share split is 50%. We do not cut the round trillion into two equal won amounts, and we do not turn it into a share count.
The quarter's rates, on the printed billions. Revenue is 31.9% above ₩79.3187 trillion, against a printed 32% that the footnote says uses unrounded figures. Operating profit is 37.6% above ₩60.5426 trillion, against a printed 38%. Net income is 57.7% below ₩93.9226 trillion, against a printed −58%. Operating profit rose. Net income fell. The table does not split tax from investment gains, so we do not assign the Kioxia gain to a quarter.
Cash at the operating company is an identity, and it closes. ₩114.5 trillion minus borrowings of ₩15.8 trillion is ₩98.7 trillion, which is the net cash the newsroom prints. That cash is SK hynix's. It is not SK Square's receipt, and it is not a distribution.
₩6.2 trillion divided by ₩30 trillion is 20.7%. That is the stake that makes the two floors match if both are hit exactly. The disclosure says "our current stake" and does not print it. A tenth of a point on a ₩30 trillion pool is ₩30 billion. The percentage is our bridge, not a filing.
The 60% rule against the newsroom floor. Sixty percent of ₩6.2 trillion is ₩3.72 trillion. The newsroom floor of ₩4.3 trillion is ₩0.58 trillion above that, and 69.4% of the income floor. The policy is 60% of recurring income, plus 100% of the Kioxia special, plus a portion of gains. A pure 60% of the whole ₩6.2 trillion undershoots the newsroom floor. That fits a special passed on in full. It does not measure the special. The ₩6.2 trillion is not split. Both floors are "or more," so the gap is not cash retained. We do not print a residual as money kept.
Executed returns are ₩267 billion, ₩155 billion and ₩190 billion, summing to ₩0.612 trillion. The newsroom floor is 22.6 times 2025 and 7.0 times the three-year sum. Those years were buybacks already spent. The page's ratios of return to dividend income are 30.7%, 56.5% and 56.6%. The new recurring rate is 3.4 points above 2025. The won changed. The rate moved a little. We do not back-solve the ratios. The page does not say which column they use.
₩5.89 trillion is 1.37 times the ₩4.3 trillion floor, ₩1.59 trillion larger. The legal balance can carry a conversation about a distribution of this size. It is not the receipt. The 2 November documents do not show the cash in.
This is not a price call.

Where does the money stick?
At five seats. Two of them have already been paid or resolved. Two of them are a different pipe. One of them is the stuck step.
- SK hynix, on chips already shipped. Revenue ₩104.6155 trillion, operating profit ₩83.3338 trillion, margin 80%. Net income ₩39.7756 trillion fell on the quarter. Net cash ₩98.7 trillion is in the operating company's account, not the holdco's.
- SK hynix shareholders, on a resolved dividend. ₩14 trillion, ₩20,000 a share, half earnings and half the Kioxia special on the per-share line. The pay date is not printed. SK Square's slice of this cheque is not printed either. The ₩6.2 trillion is a full-year expectation.
- Holders who sell into the buyback. ₩60 trillion or more is to be cancelled, including ₩40 trillion already bought. A buyback pays the seller, not the holder. About ₩10 trillion of the new buyback is staff pay and sits outside the return total.
- SK Square, as a hynix holder. Expected dividend income of about ₩6.2 trillion or more, from a stake the disclosure does not print. No bank line in the 2 November documents shows the cash received.
- SK Square's own shareholders. This is the stuck step. Newsroom floor ₩4.3 trillion or more. The PDF's rule is 60% of recurring income, 100% of the Kioxia special, and a portion of gains. The method is not chosen. A buyback would pay sellers. A dividend would pay holders. The day is unchosen with the method.
The money sticks where the step has not cleared. At SK hynix the quarter has cleared. At SK Square it has been described.

Is the cheque still stuck?
Yes. The third-quarter dividend at SK hynix is a resolution. SK Square's distribution is a rule. The filing has no won amount for the cheque. The newsroom has a won amount and no method or day.
The PDF's last operative sentence is the stuck step. Scale, method and timing are finalised after the 2026 statements. A plan that postpones the number, the instrument and the date has not cut a cheque. The newsroom adds ₩4.3 trillion or more and repeats that the details follow the books. A floor said aloud is not a credit to an account.
Two figures that look like the cheque, and are not. The ₩5.89 trillion reclass is an entry from earlier this year. Net cash of ₩98.7 trillion is SK hynix's, at 30 September. Neither is a payment from SK Square to its holders.
Since 2023 the executed instrument has been a buyback, which pays the seller. The IR page still allows a dividend or a buyback. This disclosure does not pick, so the recipient is open. Hynix's lines on shortages, HBM4 and long-term agreements are about the next wafer, not this cheque. That stack is the 28 October pulse.
What dates matter
Four markers. Two have a day. The two that test this view do not.
| When | What | What would count |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Oct 2026 | SK hynix results, the return plan, the ₩14 trillion dividend, the ₩20 trillion buyback. | Done. The pool this pulse cites. |
| 2 Nov 2026 | SK Square disclosure and newsroom. | Done. This pulse. |
| Pay date of the ₩14 trillion | Not printed in the 6-K or the newsroom. | A date, if the company names one. Until then it is a resolution without a day. |
| After FY2026 statements | SK Square said it will then set scale, method and timing, and disclose them. | The cheque test. No calendar day is printed. |
Hynix carries the plan through the payment date of the 2026 annual dividend. That is a sequence, not a day. SK Square's cheque waits on its own statements, which wait on the subsidiary's.

How is this different from the October export print?
The 3 November pulse was customs data. Memory did most of a record export month, mostly because the price rose, and the new production slot was what stayed stuck. This print starts after that payment. The line has run. The question is which balance sheet the cash sits on next. The scarce object there was a slot. The scarce object here is a distribution described and not made.
The 28 October hynix pulse stayed inside the fab: an operating margin, and HBM4. The 60% here is a pass-through of dividend income. They are different ratios. The 30 October Samsung pulse was the other maker's cash and its clean rooms. That cash is not this dividend.
What would change this view?
Who gets paid today is SK hynix on chips that shipped, and hynix shareholders on a resolved dividend. The stuck step is SK Square's own cheque. It moves if any of these print.
- SK Square names a scale, a method and a date near the ₩4.3 trillion floor. The method would say whether holders or sellers are paid.
- The instrument is a buyback and SK Square does not sell. Continuing holders would get no cash from that slice.
- Hynix sets cash dividends below ₩30 trillion, or the stake changes. The ₩6.2 trillion figure is the product of those two, and the PDF says it can move.
- The second Kioxia instalment is too small for a 60% recurring pass-through to reach the newsroom floor. That cannot be tested until the split is printed.
- A named investment absorbs the floor. The newsroom says new investment will be prepared carefully. It names no won for it.
- Audit moves an unaudited line by enough to change the arithmetic. The hynix quarter is preliminary. The PDF says the forward-looking lines are not a promise.
Practical takeaways
- The filing is a rule, not a receipt: about ₩6.2 trillion or more in, at least 60% of recurring income out, 100% of the Kioxia special, and the won, the method and the day later.
- ₩4.3 trillion or more is the newsroom floor, not a PDF line. Sixty percent of ₩6.2 trillion is ₩3.72 trillion, on our arithmetic. 69.4% is the ratio of the two floors.
- The ₩14 trillion third-quarter dividend is resolved at SK hynix. Its pay date is not printed. The buyback pays sellers, not holders.
- SK Square spent ₩0.612 trillion on buybacks in 2023–2025. The new floor is a different size, and it has not been spent. The next disclosure is the one after the 2026 books. No day is printed.
FAQ
Who gets paid on SK Square's 2 November plan?
SK hynix, on memory it already shipped. SK hynix shareholders, on a third-quarter dividend the board has already resolved. SK Square's own shareholders, only on a plan. The plan names a rule and a newsroom floor. It does not name a cheque.
What did SK Square disclose on 2 November 2026?
Dividend income of about ₩6.2 trillion or more, from SK hynix cash dividends of ₩30 trillion or more. At least 60% of recurring dividend income through 2028, up from at least 30%. All of the Kioxia special dividend income. A portion of investment gains, still. Scale, method and timing come after the 2026 financial statements.
Why is ₩4.3 trillion not 60% of ₩6.2 trillion?
Sixty percent of ₩6.2 trillion is ₩3.72 trillion, on our arithmetic. The newsroom floor is ₩4.3 trillion, which is ₩0.58 trillion higher, or 69.4% of the income floor. The disclosure does not print ₩4.3 trillion, and it does not split the ₩6.2 trillion into ordinary and special. The 69.4% is the ratio of two floors, not the policy rate.
Is the cheque still stuck?
Yes. The third-quarter dividend at SK hynix is resolved. SK Square's own return is not. The company said the scale, the method and the timing are set after the 2026 books close, and disclosed after that.
Does the SK hynix buyback pay SK Square?
Not as a dividend. A buyback pays the holder who sells. SK Square's 2 November disclosure is about dividend income. The buyback line, ₩60 trillion or more to be cancelled, is a different pipe. About ₩10 trillion of the new buyback is for employees and is excluded from the shareholder-return total.
What date matters next?
The documents used here do not name a pay date for the ₩14 trillion third-quarter dividend, or a day for SK Square's own cheque. The test is the disclosure SK Square said it will make after its 2026 financial statements are confirmed.

How we check this
The rule, the ₩30 trillion floor and the ₩6.2 trillion expectation are from the 2 November disclosure PDF. The ₩4.3 trillion floor and the ₩5.89 trillion reclass are from the newsroom the same day, not from that PDF. Hynix return lines are from the 28 October fair disclosure. Revenue, profit, cash and the ₩14 trillion dividend are from the results newsroom. Executed returns are from the return page. Subtraction and division are marked our arithmetic.
